It's a common occurrence - you haven't used your fireplace in a while and the first chilly day catches you by surprise. So, you flip on your gas fireplace, and ... nothing happens!
If your fireplace won't light, it could be for a couple of reasons.
1. Your pilot light is out. If this is the case, your gas is probably turned off. Call a professional to help you with the next steps if this is the case.
2. You have Intermittent Pilot Ignition (IPI), which means your pilot isn't lit when the fireplace is turned off.
If you have an IPI, your fireplace just needs a little time to get going. Simply turn on the light switch and wait a few minutes to give your fireplace enough time to get the pilot and burner ignition going and you'll be able to enjoy your fire!
